In 1972, Luigi Marrozzini commissioned Salvador Dalí to produce 6 lithographs to illustrate a book written by the artist's friend and high mathematician Tharrats, brother of the Catalan artist Joan Josep, in an edition of 300. It was to be titled "La Metaphisique chez Salvador Dali". Luigi traveled to Cadaques, Dali's home, to oversee the project. When Tharrats saw these first 2 lithographs, he wanted nothing to do with them, claiming Dali had not bothered to read his book. Dali, according to Luigi, insisted he didn't have to. The stalemate ended the project.
These two lithographs, signed and numbered by the artist, are mentioned in the book by Lee Caterall The Great Dalí Art Fraud and Other Deceptions as two of the very few Dalí lithographs to be listed as original in the catalogue raisonné by Albert Field. |
